A night conducive to the brain’s “natural cleansing”

While we sleep soundly, our brain doesn’t pause. Quite the opposite: it takes advantage of this time to perform a real internal cleansing.

Researchers have observed that sleeping on your side may facilitate certain natural processes of cerebral fluid circulation during sleep. These mechanisms contribute to the elimination of certain substances produced during the day.

Sleeping on your left side could therefore promote an environment more conducive to these nocturnal processes. Of course, this doesn’t replace a healthy lifestyle, but this posture seems to support the brain’s natural recovery process.

One more reason to pay attention to your sleeping position!

The lymphatic system also appreciates this position.

The body possesses a discreet but essential network: the lymphatic system. It participates in the overall balance of the organism by contributing to the circulation of certain fluids and the transport of various substances.

This network has a large main channel located on the left side of the thorax. Sleeping on this side could therefore accompany the natural movement of fluids during the night.

In other words, this posture would allow the body to function more freely during rest hours, a time when it already carries out many regulatory processes.

Again, this is not an absolute rule, but rather a small gesture promoting  nighttime digestive comfort .

How to easily adopt this position during the night

Good news: there’s no need to force yourself to stay still all night. Sleep is a time when the body moves naturally.

To encourage left-side positioning, a few simple adjustments can help:

  • Place a cushion behind your back to avoid rolling onto your back
  • choose a pillow that properly supports the neck in order to align the head and spine
  • Place a small cushion between your knees to keep your hips aligned and reduce tension in your lower back.

These adjustments make the posture much more comfortable and allow the body to settle into it naturally.

Over time, this position may even become a new sleeping habit.
